A Sustainable, Solar Powered Fiber Mill

AND... if you find this fascinating as we do, you can learn more about this fiber mill in a lunch and learn sponsored by AIA Asheville. "Energy efficiency and sustainability were central to the architectural design and construction of the 16,500 square foot fiber mill in Weaverville, North Carolina. In 2012 the fiber mill won a Design Award honor from the NC AIA.  The mill incorporates a geothermal system, solar power, natural lighting, LED fixtures, and a comprehensive building energy management system that drastically reduces energy consumption.  In addition, the fiber mill uses low flow fixtures and harvests rainwater. As a result the facility uses 80% less water than similarly sized buildings. The Echoview Fiber Mill was designed by Clearscapes, Raleigh, NC.  Architect and project manager, Robby Johnston, will discuss the design and the many sustainable features of the building.
