REALTORS ® the Go-To Resource

As demonstrated by the numbers of posts in the 30 Days in September Challenge,  REALTORS ® can be the “Go-To” resource  for a variety of information about a community. And then there is the added benefit for clients of data interpretation and a market trend watch. For you this might include keeping an eye out for what's happening in terms of healthy homes and living— maintaining and improving the environmental quality of a home, neighborhood and community. Certainly, this can be one important “slice of the information pie"  in terms of the attitude and/or culture of the community, and it can be especially valuable to relocating clients.

The growing consumer demand for healthy-built homes and sustainable innovation is a subject of interest for so many readers interested in becoming knowledgeable stewards of the property they are purchasing.

In fact when it comes to environmental issues, North Carolina law requires an agent to disclose certain facts about and pertaining to the property being transferred. These facts extend beyond the physical features of the house or land.  In order responsibly to provide this information the agent may need to do research about environmental conditions in and relating to the property.

NAR GREEN® and the ECO Certified ®Real Estate Consultant courses can provide a starting point for that research allowing the real estate professional  to:

1.    be able to assess the relevancy of environmental facts on a specific real estate transactions,

2.    be able to respond, through the understanding and resources present here, to issues regarding “facts of special interest to the client” on a variety of environmental topics including air and energy, soil and water,

3.    be able to guide the client to a variety of information on environmental regulations and alternatives that will be of service to both the client and the community.

4.    know more about population trends,  air and water quality, sediment control, land trusts, greenways, energy conservation and alternatives and other relevant environmental issues.

But courses are not the only learning tool available. As a member of Active Rain, you can join the conversation at the ECO-ALL-STARS GROUP   (over 1,200 AR members) as well as NAR GREEN  … a most enjoyable way to learn and expand our horizons.…

Green is the future. Here anything that is new is in most instances touted as being Ecco friendly.

janeAnne, I am still amazed at the number of agents who have yet to embrace Green. It's not a fad and will become the standard - as soon as we all wise up. :)

JaneAnne - In short, we rock!  Ditto to Debb.  Green is the future, but it is the present. We may not be offering 100% certified green homes but there are green choices for existing and to be built homes. It's really sad that most builders ridicule our lack of knowledge when it comes to home building tecnniques and enviromental building science. Not me, I've got respet left and right. Now just refer some folks who want to buy or sell a quality home! That's what green is, quality!

Bill~ I agree with you that consumer demand points to a "green" future =)

Debb~

You hit the nail on the head with "as soon as we wise up" I'd be LOL  if ...quite possibly...it were not on a distant horizon.

Cathy~

I agree that "green" equates not only to sustainable innovation, but to quality. Healthy-built homes are a dream come true for buyers...and for Sellers!

JaneAnne...my next home will be "green".... I just wished we had a "green" builder when we built our home in 2005...

naneAnne,

I look forward to the day that "GREEN" is not a differentiator, but is part of the fabric of our lives.  We just had lunch at a great outdoor place at the ocean, and every thing they used was Green...I took a maoment to notice, because we want to keep patronizing those type of places as well as those who buy organic at the Farmers Market.  A

janeAnne,

As our country gets older, we need to all explore more ways to be GREEN and you are defintely paving the way in NC. One of the best ways to lead the pack is to be eco-friendly conscious and be the expert in that department. Again, you go to the top of the class. Your words are golden.

I read with interest your post and started thinking about homes that were not in good condition, mainly due to human neglect. I've also observed other REALTORS® when we've gone on tour and walked into homes that were not cared for, messy, smelly, you get the picture. There's an immediate sick feeling, no smiles, people's eyes divert downward and they start heading out the door as fast as they can. Yet when you are in a healthy environment (and you don't even have to smell homemade cookies) people are drawn in, they are intrigued, they make themselves at home. I've seen more smiles, people walk slower in appreciation for the green environment which feels healthy.

Thanks janeAnne for being the leader of the pack here on ActiveRain when it comes to promoting GREEN. I look up to you.

janeAnne, we have several builders in our area now who are embracing green principles and there is definitely more awareness among consumers as well.  And yes, as Realtors, we are often the first point of contact "to go to" but we also need to be able "to got to" other places for more info.  NAR Green is definitely a great start to learn more.

janeAnne - One would imagine that here in the mountains "green" would be the norm.  Unfortunately, however, it is not.  What hasn't changed though is the importance of education and getting your Eco-Broker certification is an excellent opportunity for more learning!

Ron and Alexandra~ "fabric of our lives"...YES!

Patricia~ As you noted.."human neglect" is a Big Deal...and can be felt, by clients...great point!!!
