reliable stumpers

Have you ever noticed that clients sometimes
ask you
all kinds of questions NOT about the property they want to list  or about the property in which they want to invest, but about subjects librarians love to answer?

This past month, I have been asked at least 10 questions  that had me stumped, well, at least for a minute or two. Like, "Are they going to decorate the cell towers around Asheville for the holidays?"  And "At what rate does that waterfall- fall?"

ummmm..hmmm..GOOD QUESTION!

What's a real estate person to do, I ask ya" ?  Possibly answer the question with a question??   So here I am,  sitting around dreaming up some very reliable stumpers, while smokin' my stogie...Maybe this'll do the trick! What do you think?

1.  Where does your garbage go?

2. Tell me five resident and five migratory birds in your bioregion.

3. Do you like locally-grown veggies? Name five edible plants, and their seasons of availability.

4. What three things can you do right at home in five minutes to be more "energy efficient"?

5. Who is Charles Eliot?

PS Tell me if I stumped you!

Birds and vegetables always stump me.

What are you up to? What stumping questions you have come up with.

What about the altitude in other words. Do they know what the feet distance they are from sea level that their new home will be?

I will try a few:

Garbage goes to the landfill

Local Birds - finch, wren, cardinals, dove, red bellied woodpecker

Veggies - tomatoes, eggplant, carrots, onions, green peppers all in summer. I know because we grew them all this year

Energy efficiency - turn thermostat down, weather-strip windows,  lower temp on hot water heater

Charles Eliot - One of the first landscape architects or a past president of Harvard University

1.  Where does your garbage go?  - Depends.  To the landfill (and yes, I do know where ours is), or to the compost pile.

2. Tell me five resident and five migratory birds in your bioregion. - This isn't really fair, because our farm is on a major migratory route so I see them all.  Resident:  Grackle, Red-tailed hawk, Blue heron, golden-cheeked warbler, black-capped vireo.  Migratory:  Red-winged blackbird, pelicans (yep, they migrate over our place in Central Texas to a nearby lake system - thought I'd lost my mind the first time I saw them), mountain plover, bald eagles (winter) and whooping cranes (a family of five landed in our pasture a couple/three years ago and marched up the hill, the young one, like any two-year-old toddler, refusing to "walk" any further and the adults trying hard to convince him to move on).  Yes, whooping cranes ARE as tall as I am.

3. Do you like locally-grown veggies? Name five edible plants, and their seasons of availability.  Yes.  Tomatoes, jalapenos, okra, collards, broccoli.  As for seasons of availability - one of our advantages is that we have an 11 month growing season.

4. What three things can you do right at home in five minutes to be more "energy efficient"? - put "draft blockers" in front of the doors and on windowsills.  Turn off water while brushing teeth.  Put on a sweater and thick socks (or if it's really cold, my purple overalls eggplant suit with "Lead Mare" embroidered on the breast).

5. Who is Charles Eliot? - probably not the one you mean, but a British knight, admiral, and charge d'affaires in Texas who worked for the abolition of slavery and also against annexation of Texas into the union.  Which one did you have in mind? ;-)

Bill...thanks for your comments and sharing bioregional info for Western North Carolina ..I hope you had better luck with your tomatoes this year than I did. Oh! and I really like your new photo.

Sure, janeAnne.  Don't know if everybody has a purple eggplant suit with Lead Mare on the breast, though. ;-)

Okay, give.  Which Charles Elliot did you have in mind?  You can email me privately if you don't want to spoil the game for latecomers.

Aquatic Hearing AidFor those who haven't fooled around with it, Google Earth has a built in altimeter that lets you see the height of any spot you are likely to be selling a house in. I can tell you that Google Earth thinks that janeAnne's office is 2123 feet above sea level. I'll blog more about Google Earth tomorrow if anyone's interested. This picture is in answer to JaneAnne's cigar...

Ok,  I was stumped at the stogie part.   You smokin' a stogie?  :)

Lots of those stumped me.  This would be a good Eco All Star Challenge....a photo story on 5 topics like this...I like it.

I might have to do it anyway.
