Aging Consumers' Influence on Home Design

Aging Consumers' Influence on Home Design

Recent research indicates that aging people will and do already have an enormous influence on home design and remodeling.  As a result, universal design in dwelling places may well become the norm. What does this mean in terms of changing aging perspectives now and into the future?

For millions of consumers who desire a comfortable and aesthetically delightful retirement, that is an all-important question requiring serious consideration.

When deciding whether to remodel utilizing universal design elements and stay in their homes or build a new home, today’s consumers are sensitive to subtle elegance and beautiful décor. Consumer demand confirms this. People who grew up in the 60s, who have tremendous buying power today, and who seek an active lifestyle will not choose to move to “retirement homes”, but instead prefer alternative solutions.

That is the exact point at which a real estate professional can be an enormous support. And that is also the reason why we are excited about our small ePub, Aging in PALACE - (AKA--"the changing aging perspectives series,  PALACE- quick start guide for enduring excellence- designed for life choices for aging at home and sustainable innovation- volume 1) What can I say, the title is almost as long as this little guide =)

AND...It addresses choices aging consumers may make, and provides a good starting point.

janeAnne:  You write of something I am seeing more and more ... the Baby Boomer discussing what their best options for housing and retirement are.  Many people that I wrote loans for at the beginning of my career (35 yrs ago) are now downsizing, remodeling an existing home, or moving to something that suits their lifestyle minus kids.  A huge portion of the buying population is represented, so we best know how to address the issues they find important.  GREAT post and suggestions ...

The older I get the more I wish my home was all one floor with a master bath... Which I do not have now...

Genetic Roulette janeAnne, check out Genetic Roulette posted on Barbara-Jo's blog. Be prepared it's a long one but one I know you'll be glad you watched.

Aging is getting to me. It won't leave me alone and I'm not comfortable with aging. Ugh! Help!

I have to think about where I want to be and make some tough decisions. You're a great supporter and I want to thank you for helping me to be aware of these things.
