Aging-in-Place- Myths and Mythbusters

Aging-in-Place- The Real Story

So much can grow out of life experiences - especially if they are accentuated by events of the 60s.

Many of us -approximately 90 Million in 2012, now somewhere between the ages of 50-to-80-or so, given those events, are not settling for life after retirement as lived by our parents. Instead, we fearlessly cheer for aging beautifully and well- complementary and alternative medicine, and for

innovative trends in our "At Last Homes" that utilize beautiful universal design features, and for multi-generational solutions, and for the economic power we possess- (especially women). . ..( I'm just sayin')...and so we are asking...

-Will you choose to make your home a feathered nest that works for you regardless of your age?  Good idea: Plan ahead for the home of your choice.where you can live happily, comfortably and as independently as you age-at-home..or, as I call it age-in-PALACE©

AGING-IN-PLACE- HOME AND DECOR
_Technology advances offer more choices for older adults. What works for you regardless of your age? ...more coming in my changing aging perspectives at home series.

I call it age-in-PALACE©  - I love that idea.. and it is so true. We all need to spend our golden years in our PALACE.

janeAnn, I love Joan's "aging in palace" phrase.  I'm thinking about a move in the near future, and it will need an elevator installed to work for aging in place!

Hi Joan~

Yes...When I got to writing on the subject of "aging-in-place" it suddenly occurred to me that the term felt kind of "moldy"...like a hunk of cheese or something...and I thought...I'd rather AGE IN P A L A C E...so I coined the term and have been grinning ever since.  I do think it takes some forward planning...I'm considering the Throne Room at present..<G>

It just makes sense to me (and to my clients) to plan for the future. The home you see is here in Asheville- really, really nice new construction w/ age-friendly features and benefits.

I don't think many young buyers think this way but some of my middle age clients are looking for single story homes, knowing that stairs will not be welcome when they are older.  My husband and I bought our future retirement property with that in mind.

At the rate things are going we will continue to show homes when we are pushing a walker! In the first place we will never have enough savings, and second we love what we do! We all need to be around people and it is way too much fun to share to quit doing it!
