My husband has arthritis. When we built our home five years ago, we took that into account. It is a one-level with a bonus room up. Our guess is we'll be here another 20 years or so.

janeAnne you are so very right this is a subject we will all deal with if we are lucky enough to live long enough.  Debbie and I have already downsized.  Each time we think of going bigger again we think of our future and stay in our smaller yet comfortable casa.

Hi John~

Yes! As an "older adult" I am very fond of the idea of main floor living- and elegant but functional grab bars! And, of course I'd expect nothing less from you and Debbie than the good sense to appreciate your comfortable casa.

There are a lot of things necesaary to make a home completely accessible. I built a few that a partial elements incorporated, but the price went up really fast due to space requirements.

Than~

I would love to see a post about your experiences - including a cost analysis. As an "older adult" I am thinking I wouldn't  mind figuring out a spending plan to remodel my current home so that I can live independently so long as is possible...and a spending plan would be helpful.
