Aging-in-Place: Will you move or stay?
Many NOT-All-That-Retiring older adults have a positive equity balance on our homes. We have taken advantage of historically low interest rates. As the economy recovers and mortgage rates begin to rise, we may be more inclined to stay in our homes … since, according to The Joint Center for Housing Studies- Harvard University, “… moving implies prepaying …current mortgage with its favorable interest rate, and taking out a new, higher market-rate mortgage."
Should we move or stay in a "forever home"- unassisted living.This is where consideration of earlier mentioned information (in an article I wrote ) comes into play. Think about
accessibility/accessible, active living community, energy smart, green design, healthy places, LEED, mixed-use-development, neo-traditional development, New Urbanism, pedestrian-friendly, proximity, quality-of- life, Smart Code, social capital, sustainable design, universal design, walkable community...

HOME & HEALTH- consider this- 1) create the spending plan 2) set the priorities 3) review boomer and older adult products 4) schedule upgrades- and keep in mind- energy efficiency, natural light, indoor air quality, non-toxic paints, enjoyable living spaces that also will be marketable should you decide to move.
