Pocket Neighborhoods- Radical Boomers Asheville Style

Any number of our “Baby Boomer” clients tell me they are considering what appears to some to be a “radical Pocket Neighborhoodaging-in-place” option.

"What? Radical?" I say.  Coming at this notion from the perspective of  a  one-time “Flower Child” I am smiling all the way  from Today to the way back when radical 60s! Radical DEFINED Today:  a) Affordable options. b) Neighborly living in Asheville. c) Both comfortable and practical.

For the past many years as you know, I’ve been a big proponent of lifelong homes with premium functionality. If you read my blog, you’ll know that I’m excited about the cottage homes of   Tumbleweed Tiny Homes . I’m also a Big Fan of the work of  designers such as Ross Chapin, Architect. Take a look at the photos here for a clue of his inspired design. NOTE: Photo Credits Ross Chapin  http://www.pocket-neighborhoods.net/

Here in Asheville I’ve been following the progress of The Villages at Crest Mountain for many years. (ask me for links and videos)

Here (above) is an example of Tumbleweed Tiny Homes Cottage- For thosse considering "agiing-in-place" it could be a most attractive alternative.

And yes, with "radical" options like these no wonder  our team is excited about covering the growing demographic of “boomers” and older adults, empty nesters and intergenerational home owners who thrill at the idea of sustainable excellence (green, affordable, walkable energy efficient and neighborly.)

How do I see all this coming together? Pocket neighborhoods ! “Clustered groups of neighboring houses or apartments gathered around a shared open space — a garden courtyard, a pedestrian street, a series of joined backyards, or a reclaimed alley — all of which have a clear sense of territory and shared stewardship. They can be in urban, suburban or rural areas. (continue reading)

Hi!     Makes total sense to me.    I love the look and don't know why more areas aren't adopting this concept.
