One of our favorite places, less than an hour’s drive from downtown Asheville, has been a charmed secret awaiting the “right steward”. We were excited when, recently, The Southern Appalachian Highland Conservancy Land Trust placed a 241-acre tract that adjoins other tracts into permanent preservation saying, "Our purchase and long-term commitment to conservation of this property rounds out the protection of this highly visible mountain bald.," The property rises to 4,800 feet at the summit of Little Sandy Mush Bald and is visible from the Appalachian Medley Scenic Byway (N.C. 209).
